Toronto 2011: 'Goon' Sells to Magnolia Pictures' Genre Division (Exclusive)

Carlos Alvarez/Getty Images Magnolia Pictures' Magnet division has swooped in the hockey comedyGoon, starring Seann William Scott, Liev Schreiber and Jay Baruchel. The image opened at Toronto and it has been building buzz since that time. Sources the purchase is incorporated in the roughly $two million range. Upon finding both his right hook and skates, he joins a downtrodden hockey team and inspires them into new levels. Alison Pill and Marc-Andre Grondin are also within the movie. Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, the frequent collaborator of Seth Rogen, authored the script, inspired through the book Goon: The Real Story of the Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, compiled by Doug Cruz and Adam Frattasio.
